About Playwright

Richard Vetere is a Queens native and an accomplished poet, playwright, novelist, actor, and screenwriter. He possesses an immense and multifaceted talent and has achieved success on several fronts.

Mr. Vetere started writing at age seven and published two volumes of poetry by the time he was thirty: Memories of Human Hands and A Dream of Angels. His first love was poetry, and that love snowballed into a career as a multitalented writer.

The Third Miracle, his first novel, was named “one of the best debut novels of the season”. It was later turned into a 1999 feature film for which he co-authored the screenplay.

He is the author of forty plays that have been produced all over the world. These include Gangster Apparel, The Engagement, First Love, The Marriage Fool, Hale the Hero!, How to Go Out on a Date in Queens, The Vows, Penelope Corelli, and The Classic.

On top of his busy writing schedule, Mr. Vetere also teaches a screenwriting class at Queens College. He holds a master’s degree in contemporary English literature from Columbia University and is a member of PEN, the Dramatists Guild, the Writers Guild, Poets & Writers and the New York Playwrights Lab.
